2.3.3. Integration of Digital Technology

The Integration of digital technology in companies dimension is broken down into three subdimensions, one refers to the number of technologies adopted by SMEs, another refers to the degree of digitalization existing in companies and the third the level of e-Commerce in SMEs.

The first subdimension has a single indicator, and has a weight of 15%; the second has seven indicators, three of them twice as heavy as the other four, and a relative weight of 70%. The third consists of three indicators, with the same weight, and contributes 15%.

Table 5 shows the values and positions of Catalonia in each of these subdimensions.

Catalonia does not stand out especially in terms of the Digital intensity of SMEs, it occupies the tenth position. In contrast, the result in business digitization is quite positive, obtaining the seventh place in the ranking. As for the e-Commerce of Catalan SMEs, despite not being in a leading position, it is above the EU average.

The analysis of the indicators of Integration of digital technology in businesses shows that Catalonia is above the EU-27 average in all of them, except for Big data, and leads the ranking in Electronic information sharing and Social media. Although it ranks seventh in SME selling online, e-Commerce turnover still has a lot of room for improvement, it does enjoy a stronger position in cross-border online selling.
