2.3.2. Connectivity

Three of the four Connectivity subdimensions contain indicators of coverage and implementation of different broadband technologies, both fixed and mobile. The fourth subdimension, the Broadband price index, measures the prices of a series of packages offered for fixed, mobile and both types of broadband.

Table 3 presents the values and positions of each of the subdimensions of the Connectivity dimension.

Table 3. Comparison of Connectivity sub-dimensions.
Table 3 Comparison of Connectivity sub-dimensions

Catalonia presents above-average results in all subdimensions. In fixed broadband it holds a very advanced position, both in terms of take-up, where it is leader, and in coverage. Mobile broadband ranks sixth. Its position for the Broadband price index is the furthest behind.

The contribution of each of the subdimensions to the dimension is as follows: 25%, 25%, 40% and 10%.

Table 4 presents the results of the indicators of the four subdimensions of Connectivity.

Table 4 Comparison of Connectivity indicators

Catalonia has values higher than the EU-27 average in all indicators related to the Connectivity dimension, except for Fixed broadband take-up of at least 1 Gbps, 5G coverage and the Broadband price index, which are precisely three of the four indicators for which the Spanish data had to be used due to the impossibility of obtaining them disaggregated for Catalonia. Noteworthy is its leadership in at least 100 Mbps fixed broadband take-up, as well as its position in Mobile broadband take-up.

All indicators have the same weight in the respective subdimension, except Fixed very high capacity network (VHCN) coverage and 5G coverage, which weigh twice as much.

  1. Estimates have been made from Spanish (CNMC) data to obtain the At least 100 Mbps fixed broadband take-up indicator (2a2). For the Fixed broadband take-up indicators of at least 1 Gbps (2a3) 5G readiness (2c2), 5G coverage (2c3), and the Broadband price index (2d1) the values of Spain have been taken.
