2.3.3. Integration of Digital Technology

The dimension of Integration of digital technology in companies is broken down into three sub-dimensions, one relative to the number of technologies adopted by SMEs, another that refers to the current degree of digitalization existing in companies and the third on e-commerce of SMEs.

The first sub-dimension has a single indicator, and has a weight of 15%; the second has seven indicators, three of them with twice the weight of the other four, and a relative weight over the dimension of 70%. The third is made up of three indicators, with the same weight, and contributes 15%.

Table 5 shows the scores and position of Catalonia in each of these sub-dimensions.

The most noteworthy position of Catalonia in Integration of digital technology in companies is the one referring to the digital intensity of SMEs, where it ranks sixth. The result in business digitization is also quite remarkable, obtaining eighth place in the ranking. As for the e-commerce of Catalan SMEs, despite not being in a clearly leading position, it does exceed the EU average.

The analysis of the indicators of Integration of digital technology in companies shows that Catalonia is above the EU-27 average in all of them, except in Big Data and in ICT for environmental sustainability. It holds the second position in the ranking of electronic information sharing. Despite holding the seventh position in SME that sell online, in e-commerce turnover it still has a long way to go, enjoying a slightly better position in electronic cross-border sales.
